Tour operator introduces 20% discount to support Sri Lanka’s tourism
Just five months ago tourism was Sri Lanka’s third biggest source of income. It’s already dropped to being its fourth with the terrible events of Easter Sunday continuing to rock the country and its people to the foundations.
“The situation is now impacting the entire population either directly or indirectly,” says Nick Pulley, managing director Nick Pulley who visited the country recently to meet local tourism partners.
“Guides, hotel porters, business owners, drivers, cooks, safari rangers, baggage handlers – you name them, they are all desperately short of work and the slow return to growth has led to numerous business closures, leaving many unemployed.
“Whilst we have been buoyed to see stability return to Sri Lanka, progress within the tourism industry has undoubtedly been slow, leading to a huge amount of concern and suffering,” adds Nick.
“As a company, we remain fully invested in the Sri Lanka and its people and believe strongly in our duty to help in its recovery. Since April we have financially supported our guides through these lean times. However our focus is very much on creating more business for them and restoring growth to the travel industry.
“In order to try and accelerate this growth we have reached out to our partners, hotels and suppliers across the country and have collectively made enough adjustments to allow for a 20% discount,” explains Nick.
“We know visitor numbers will eventually return to where they were prior to the tragedies of Easter Sunday but in the short-term it means many, many people are being forced to leave the industry in order to make ends meet. In conjunction with our suppliers across the country, we hope this discount may encourage a few more people to travel to Sri Lanka. It’s the least we can do.”
The discount is available to clients travelling to Sri Lanka before June 30, 2020 and is valid on all ‘favourite journeys’ featured on the Selective Asia website as well as on fully tail0r-made holidays. The discount does not include flights.
