As part of its annual support of a local charity, a golf day organised by Sencio Community Leisure (SCL) has raised £1150 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The money, collected as a result of the event at Lullingstone Park Golf Course (LPGC) on August 31, is added to £735 raised earlier last month by SCL staff taking part in a triathlon and will be further increased by other fundraising events before a presentation is made to the charity in the new year.

The golf day attracted more than 60 players completing LPGC’s challenging 18-hole course and representing partners of, and suppliers to, the not-for-profit community leisure operator which, in addition to LPGC, operates Edenbridge Leisure Centre, Sevenoaks Leisure Centre and White Oak Leisure Centre in Swanley.

Alison Dillon from Sevenoaks has a 21-year-old actor son, Oli, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was three months old and, over the years, has had a number of stays in hospital for IV antibiotics for a degenerative disease that, with every infection, brings the risk of irreversible lung damage.

“Keeping fit and healthy is paramount for a person with CF as it helps clear the lungs. I am therefore grateful Sencio has chosen to support the work of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust this year,” says Alison, who is an active campaigner for access to new medicines that are currently unavailable in the UK due to the inability of NHS England and the manufacturer to reach an agreement.

Speaking of the annual charity golf day at LPGC Jane Parish, chief executive of SCL, says: “As a leisure operator we’re all-too aware sporting, exercise and physical activity can be highly beneficial to those suffering from certain medical conditions. We are delighted to be able to support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust this year and to highlight the work of tireless campaigners like Alison.”
